What is corrugated flute and what is the best option for my product?

The flute is basically defined by the measurement of the height of the wave that is in the middle of the cardboard. There are variations in flute heights and they are usually identified by letters such as A, B, C, D, E and F, each option is different, which directly influences the performance of the material. A corrugated board with a certain type of flute may be stronger in terms of stacking, it may have more impact protection or it may simply be the corrugated board recommended for a certain type of product.

In terms of a cardboard box, the flute influences the wall thickness of the packaging. The most popular materials are the single C-flute corrugated board, made with three (3) layers of paper and on the other hand there is also the well-known doubleflute corrugated boardBC, made with five (5) layers of paper, two of them corrugated in the middle.

How do the B, C and BC flutes influence my cardboard boxes?

The B flute, being lower in height, is a good choice for self-assembly boxes and is recommended for all types of end-user oriented shops: cosmetics, clothing, even glass and ceramics (but fillers must be included). However, this type of flute is not recommended for heavy products.

The C-flute is the most popular in factories and is a variant for heavy products. The walls are thicker and this is good for securing more fragile products.

The BC flute is one of the thicker composite flute variants and is designed for shipping crates, as its five layers of paper make thicker walls. This type of flute is recommended for large boxes, but not for small boxes, as the thick walls will not be easy to handle. 

The papers used for the manufacture of cardboard boxes are brown (natural) coloured papers and white boxes are made from papers that require a bleaching process.
